In 1934, a broad-shouldered young man carried a block of ice up five flights of stairs. He needed to fill a customer's empty icebox. That young man was my grandfather.

With the invention of the refrigerator, and cold winters turning New York City into an icebox, my grandfather began delivering coal, then heating oil. Although he didn't know it then, from that simple beginning Stuyvesant Fuel Service Corp. was born.

Over the past 70 years, Stuyvesant Fuel Service Corp. has grown into one of the largest independent heating oil distributors in the New York Metropolitan area. From our acquisition of a state-of-the-art, 22-million gallon capacity deep-water oil terminal in the Bronx to the introduction of Stuyvesant Energy, the company's deregulated natural gas division, Stuyvesant has continually provided customers with the best combination of products and services to meet their energy needs.

My grandfather would be proud to know that many of his original customers are still with our company today, and that thousands of additional business owners and homeowners have put their trust in Stuyvesant.
